Tourist Places in Chail

1. Chail Palace

Chail PalaceAccording a popular story, Maharaja of Patiala, Bhupendra Singh had been expelled from Shimla when he tried to kidnap the daughter of the then Viceroy from the scandal point. In retaliation he decided to build himself an establishment that would compete with Shimla. He built himself a grand and lavish palace at Chail, a small village, 64 km from Shimla. The palace is now open to local public, a part of which has been converted into a luxury hotel. It’s also known by the name Chail Palace Hotel or Maharaja Hotel

2. Chail Wildlife Sanctuary

chail wildlife sanctuaryOnce the hunting reserves of the Royal Family of Patiala, later in 1976 the forest enclosure around the Chail Palace was converted into a wild life sanctuary. The area has a thick cover of pine, oak and deodar trees. Home to a variety of animals, one can spot leopards, panthers, porcupines, Himalayan Black Dear, goral, languor, and other Himalayan animals. Birds also habitat the place in large numbers, among which the kalij pheasant and the cheer pheasant are the most common.

3. Sidh Baba Ka Mandir (Temple)

sidh baba ka mandir at ChailInitially the site where the temple stands was chosen by the Maharaja of Patiala for constructing his house. But, after several failed attempts, the construction was halted and a temple was built instead. Many quote that the reason for this was that a Sidh Baba had appeared in the dream of the Maharaja and told him the place where he wished to build the house, was once his meditating spot and that his body lies buried underneath its ground.

4. Cricket Ground

Chail cricket stadiumKnow as the highest cricket field in the world, it is situated at a height of 8018 feet above the sea level.  It was built by Maharaja Bhupendra Singh in 1893, in his endeavor to build an establishment that would compete with the modern Shimla. Today the field is used by the students of the Chail Military School for playing cricket and football. In one corner of the field you can spot an interesting tree house, which was supposedly built by the school kids.

5. Gurudwara Sahib

Gurudwara Sahib at ChailGurudwara Sahib is a small, but enticing gurudwara placed in the Pandhawa hills, 1 km from the main Chail Bazaar. The façade of the gurudwara reminds one of the churches in Goa. It has a similar towering structure to these churches and is colored in yellow. The campus of the gurudwara is entered with a green lawn sprawling in the front. Always kept neat and clean, the gurudwara is a must visit

6. Kali Ka Tibba

Kali ka tibba Temple at ChailKali Ka Tibba is a popular shrine situated on a hilltop near Chail. It features a temple dedicated to the Goddess Kali, also known as the Goddess of time and change. The temple site offers breathtaking views of the Shivalik and Churdhar ranges in the distance. You can drive to the temple, or alternating hike towards it, if you have time. The walk is pleasant and takes you through a dense forest of pine and deodar

7. Sadhu Pul

Sadhu Pul near ChailSadhupul is a small village 17 km ahead of Chail. The Ashwini River passes right through the village attracting a large number of tourists, especially during the summers to get some respite from the hot climate. There is famous river restaurant here. Tables and chairs are laid in the flowing river, and one can sit on them with the water gushing past their feet, while they bite a snack, and savor some drinks.

8. Kufri

KufriAbout 34 km from Chail is the highest point of the region, most famously called Kufri. The place is famous for its Himalayan National park and yak and horse riding. During the winters the place gets heavy influx of tourists who wish to try their hand at the sport of skiing. The nearby Mahasu Peak, with its steep slopes remains under a thick sheet of ice, and offers plenty for all those seeking adventure on the snow.

9. Shimla

Shimla is one of the most visited hill station of Himachal Pradesh and is situated just 48 kms from Chail. If you can spare one day for visit to Shimla that will be add more charm and enjoy to your trip. You can visit one of the most famous Mall Road at Shimla and Christ Church where the Bollywood had many films shooting.

10.Adventure Activities

Skiing-in-Kufri Near ChailChail, the personal summer capital of Maharaja Bhupendra Singh is not only famous for sightseeing, but is also the base for various adventurous activities, including camping and trekking. There are four major treks that Chail Hosts. Kandaghat to Chail; Chail to Rajgarh; Chur Chandni; and Chail to Shimla via Junga. During summers, the jungles of Chail become full of activity. Many private as well as state run tourism companies organize camps, and offer activities like mountain climbing, trekking, rope walking, and more.

11. Himalayan Nature Park

Himalayan Nature Park About 35 km from Chail is situated the Himalayan National park, which features skiing slopes, a potato research center and a small zoo. Rich with vegetation and forests, the Himalayan National Park supports diverse flora and Fauna.
